Assist us in our endeavours towards a greener, more sustainable future through building eco-centric mindsets in our children and conserving our environment for future generations.

Since its inception in 2001, NVT has successfully completed a multitude of programmes and projects aimed at conserving the ecological integrity of beautiful Nature’s Valley and surrounding areas. The list is substantial, including more strategic programmes such as the overall monitoring of threats to our environment, species-focused research projects, and importantly, the multitude of learners that we have put through conservation education programmes. Our work continues to include day-to-day conservation actions, ecological research in the fynbos, rivers, estuaries and marine/coastal biomes, conservation education and community engagement.

We strive to link people to their natural heritage, not only by building awareness and knowledge of nature but encouraging their love for it.

NVT is currently expanding a number of programmes, with the intention of offering a wider range of ecological research studies to better understand the ecosystem functioning of specific biomes and provide valuable insights to improve management practices of the area and safeguard natural resources for sustainable use. NVT funds and supports critical work to mitigate these issues that impact our environment and livelihoods. Some of our work, broadly, include:

Marine and coastal programme

This programme consists of several long-term research projects that investigate anthropogenic impacts on coastal and marine environments and wildlife.

Rivers and Estuaries Programme

This programme aims to incorporate an ecosystems approach and catchment-wide study in the exploration of the unique biodiversity assemblages that rely on the system as well as the various levels of anthropogenic impacts that have a bearing on the health of the system.

Forest Programme

This programme is aimed at researching, conserving and restoring Southern Cape Afrotemperate Forests in the Tsitsikamma section of the Garden Route National Park.

Fynbos Programme

This programme includes a wide range of ecological research studies to better understand the ecosystem functioning of the biome and provide valuable insights to improve management practices of the area and safeguard natural resources for sustainable use.

Behavioral Change and Awareness Programme

These programmes aim to encourage learners and learning institutions to be more environmentally aware and sustainable through our curriculum-based initiatives and outdoor classes. We work alongside local communities to create and improve livelihoods and surroundings  through creative conservation initiatives

Urban Programme

This programme focuses on good urban planning and the conservation of green spaces within urban environments that can enable humans and biodiversity to co-exist. Furthermore, by cultivating a more ecocentric mindset in young and old, we can ensure that important vegetation types and the wildlife that inhabit them are safeguarded while, simultaneously, enhancing our sense of place and well-being.
