Applied Socio-Ecological Research

At the end of 2011, NVT board identified a gap in applied research capacity in the region and made a bold move to become a major role player in conducting applied ecological research in the region. Without good quality scientific data, conservation efforts will be like driving in the dark without headlights… To counter this in this biodiversity-rich region, NVT has set up partnerships with SANParks, CapeNature, BirdLife Plettenberg Bay, and several national and international universities. Our scientific staff run long-term ecological monitoring projects that enable us to better understand the environment we find ourselves in. The data collected from these applied research programmes are fed directly into local conservation authorities and aid them in their efforts to ensure the long-term ecological integrity of the area. Without good-quality scientific data, we cannot conserve anything…

The tabs below give a brief introduction to each of our current applied research projects. Visit our Facebook and blog pages for more in-depth articles on each one of them – we update Facebook several times a week, and post new blogs at least twice a month…
